How to choose a surface-mounted profile
Check the stand-off height first: the deeper the channel, the more it reads as a fixture. Then choose screw or clip fixing according to whether the run is fixed or needs to be serviceable.

What is a surface-mounted LED profile?
A surface-mounted LED profile is an extruded aluminum channel that is fixed directly against a ceiling, wall, cabinet or shelf, with the diffuser facing out. It is the simplest of the four mounting types: there is no recess to prepare and nothing to hang, so it is the usual choice for retrofit work and for joinery where the surface is already finished.
Fixing is either by screws through the base of the channel, or by clips that hold the channel and let it be released for maintenance. Screw fixing is the more secure for long runs; clips are quicker and let individual sections be removed without tools.
The numbers that matter are the strip width the channel accepts, the outer height H — which decides how far the fixture stands off the surface — and the outer width W, which decides how heavy the line reads on the wall.

Screw fixing or clip fixing — which should I use?
Screw fixing through the base is the more secure option and is the usual choice for long ceiling runs and any application with vibration. Clips hold the channel against the surface and let a section be released without tools, which suits cabinetry, shelving and installations where the strip may need replacing.
Can a surface-mounted profile be painted?
The aluminum body can be supplied anodized or painted to order, and powder-coating to a RAL reference is available. Painting an anodized profile on site is not recommended — the finish should be specified with the order so the coating is applied over properly prepared aluminum.
How far does a surface-mounted profile stand off the surface?
That is the outer height H. Slim channels stand off around 6–15 mm and read as a discreet line; deeper channels of 35–75 mm are used where the strip is wide, or where the channel doubles as a heat sink for higher output.
Where are surface-mounted profiles normally used?
Under and inside cabinets, on shelving, along walls, on stair strings and nosings, and on ceilings where a recess is not possible. Because they add no depth to the build-up, they are also the usual answer for retrofits.
Do I need a diffuser?
Yes, for any visible installation. The diffuser evens out the light from individual LEDs and reduces glare. Frosted PC and PMMA diffusers are supplied with the profiles in this range and are listed on each product page.
